  • The Sleeper Awakes

I was woken up by an insistent knocking at my door. At first I thought it was someone from work, though I had already let them know I’d be sleeping in late today. I grabbed my pants, put them on, and fumbled the lock open.

Blearily, I stared out at three well-dressed ladies carrying literature. Aware of my rumpled shirt, I put on a hesitant smile.

I had been rousted out of bed by the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

As a door turns on its hinges, so a sluggard turns on his bed. – Proverbs 26:14

  • My best friend has such problems with Jehovah’s Witnesses (she lives out in the middle of nowhere and looks mistakenly like she’s moral or something) that she warned me that the next time she gets a visit, she’s coming to the door naked.

  • My brother lets his dog go to the door first. They hear barking out and when he opens the door, his dog just keeps jumping against the glass panel. The dog is not vicious; just overly excited and friendly. But the visiting JW don’t know that.

  • Does anyone use peepholes lately? (I don’t)

  • They’re quite early risers, to be fair.
