  • On Book Clubs

Joining a book club is as bizarre to me as joining a food club.  It’s like you’re saying “Without it, I’ll forget to eat.”

If you really want to read, will you really forget to read without joining a book club?

  • nope! but joining the club u can talk bou the book u read with others!i think neva really join a b4

  • yeah but it was for the group discussion…it’s a lot of fun actually.

  • Hmm. I’ve always thought of it more as having access to group discussions.

  • It’s different because you talk about the book after in detail.  If there was such a thing as a food club, it would lack the many dimensions of literature (since there are less well-known chefs and culinary information) unless people are culinary aficionados.

  • Oh I forget all the time.
In fact, I should have been reading yesterday.
Instead I just lay on the ground, starring blankly at my hands for hours. I found a scar that I didn’t know was there.
    It was a horrible.

But then I ate a sandwich.

  • I thought book clubs were for hitting on other geeky single people. Oh well.

  • I’m in my book club because I value the opinion of the guy who started the club a lot. We live far apart and move in slightly different social circles now, so it’s good to schedule times to talk about books. Also, it gets me reading things I wouldn’t otherwise pick up. I’d never have found Bulgakov’s Master and Margarita on my own, for example. And the books picked for the club have been high quality. It’s about trying new things. I’d join a food club too, though.

  • Joining a book club is definitely a social experience on sharing a literary work.
